What’s the water looking like where you’re at? Bet it’s got some color to it. The ups and downs (mostly ups about now ’round here) are dislodging a lot of interesting bits of debris into the food system and fish are bulking up. What kind of stuff will you see floating in the dark stuff? Oh, sticks… Stones… Cows. Runoff in western Montana isn’t without it’s surprises. In late spring, knowing how to fish the off-color stuff often means the difference between a good fishing day and getting skunked. Here’s another great tutorial from Kelly Galloup in which he discusses his preferred deep nymphing rig. When visibility is low and the fish are deep, this system is a good way to hook into fish you might miss with a different rigging. Give it a try next time the murky stuff is running.
