Video Treat: March Madness

March may be behind us, but the spring dry fly fishing on the Bitterroot is still going strong. How good is it? Good enough to make me wish I was out there right now. Big fish are moving in all channels on the skwalas, and big smiles are more often the greeting at the boat ramp as guides and anglers alike are finding the results of cold nights and high but steady flows: big fish on the dry. Streamer junkies are all smiles as well, as the Blackfoot has been giving up it’s secrets and big fish are being found in the off-color stuff. Real big fish. It’s go time on the rivers, and while flows are still big the clarity is there and the fish are responding. If you’re stuck in the office today, take a minute and watch this excellent video from Tony Reinhardt of Montana Trout Outfitters. The great production, excellent filming and most of all big eats on big dries is enough to make you want to call in sick and get out the stick. No frills, no drama, just solid fishing and good times in this wonderful spring we’re having in Western Montana. And while we all know the big bump is coming someday soon, for now we’ll keep our fingers crossed and get after it while the getting is good. March Madness, live on.
