Tuesday Tutorial: Fire Bird

Cal’s Bird Nest is a great mayfly/attractor nymph that is a great option whenever fish are eating small stuff underneath. A guide fly originally, it has found its way to the boxes and bins and a rightful place in the “flies that just work” category. Loon Outdoors has been putting out a steady stream of fly tying tutorials to compliment and feature their unique products, and this Fire Bird is a cool variation on Cal’s original fly, and with the simple addition of their UV Fly Paint you’ve got a new hot spot version. Very fun fly, easy to tie and will find its place in your box very soon. Don’t skimp on the small stuff even when they are eating the big stuff, and you’ll find more fish when they have seen every big stonefly pattern this June.
