Tuesday Tutorial: Ug Bug Spruce Moth

Spruce Moths are starting to dominate the dry fly game on the Blackfoot river, and a good “utility guide” fly or “Ug Bug” always comes in handy. Josh Stanish has a good version that can be used for lots of hatches, and here he ties one up for the spruce moths that we see more of on low water years. I’ve been sticking with the hopper most floats, but there are more and more moths hitting the water and having a bug like this in the box can only be a good thing in western Montana. Give this bug a try and see what happens, because when the fish start keying in on the spruce moth dry fly fishing makes a big comeback from the July heat
