Grizzly Hackle’s first Fly Tying Night went great, with some of Missoula’s top tiers and some newbies all coming together to get the vises out and have some fun. Eight year-old Ayden wanted to come along to the event, and so we packed up the Frozen tote bag with a few supplies and had a blast. As always the guys at the Grizzly Hackle made sure everyone was having a good time and came away with some new skills. There were steelhead flies coming off of Denny’s vise, Lukas taught the experts how to tie some articulated monsters, and I saw some very respectable san juan worms from the beginners that will surely catch fish. For her part, Addie tied some wool head sculpins and some pink worms for the guys and she can’t wait to head down there next week for more. If you missed the event tonight, you really should try to come out to the next one and get in on the action. There is plenty of materials on hand and tools for those who are curious, and if you’re an old pro we’d love to see what you’re spinning up these days. Beer, pizza, and bugs – what could be better? The next Grizzly Hackle Tying Night is November 17th at 6:30 pm! We’ll see you there!
