Trout Unlimited Requests Mining Halt on Smith River

Montana Trout Unlimited has formally submitted a request to the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest to withdraw federal lands from mining in important Smith tributaries for 20 years. Their hope is that this withdrawal might slow or halt the development of Tintina  Resources Black Butte Copper Project, near White Sulphur Springs. While this mining operation, informally known as the Smith River mine among anglers, is in the permitting process and is actually located on private land, the aspirations of the project could see it expanding into public lands if allowed to continue as planned.
